What is this?

January 13th, 2010

Early in April 2009, two young entrepreneurs set out from San Diego, CA to show the country that people don’t need a bailout to get a car. Chris Hedgecock and Jorge Gonzalez, founders of the website CarsForaGrand.com, have purchased a car from this website for $899 and drove from San Diego to Miami, over 3800 miles in total, to prove you can buy a reliable car without financing.

The car is a 1974 Pontiac LeMans, purchased for $899.89 on February 26, 2009. To make sure the car was safe and road-worthy, $200 was invested in parts like belts, spark plugs, and a much needed oil change. The car was purchased from CarsForaGrand.com, a website that only features used cars under $1,000.

Chris and Jorge’s journey can be followed at http://www.carsforagrand.com/road-trip/ where daily updates were posted including pictures and video. The entire trip lasted 21 days, and there were no major repairs needed. The only damage to the car was a lost windshield trim piece that we left by the highway somewhere in west Texas.
