BASICS: This1980Rivierahasthe desirable Olds 350 cid engine with four barrel carburetor.This model yearfeatures the full perimeter frame whichis favored over the unibody-type frame which camealong in subsequent years. Thiscar would make an excellent project fora car cruise enthusiast. Otherwise, for anyone with moderate mechanical skill, itcould be turned into an everyday driver without too much effort.

HISTORY OF THIS CAR: This automobile was purchased new by a gentleman who garaged it and made sure to properly maintain it. After the original buyer died a few years back, the car passed to his son who kept it in the garage without driving it.My brother and sister-in-law purchased the car from the son, but they did not drive iteither. I got it from them last year and put about five thousand miles on it. Last August, as while I was driving the car, another vehiclepulled in my path,and thecollisionresulted in the dentedright front fenderand the twistedfront bumper. I continued to drive the car nonetheless, sincethe damage did not affect thesafety of the car. Last October, the water pump started to leak, and I thought that I could do a quick replacement of it. Unfortunately, my mechanical skillsmet their match withthat task, and I gave up. I removed the front bumper and towed the car to its present location.In looking at the frontright frame horn in the picture, you will not find much (if any) tweaking due to the August 2007 collision.Except for the right front fenderdamage, thebody is straight. The body has some spots of surface rust, but no holes. It appears that there was never any rust repair performed on the body. The frame appears to be solid throughout. It does not appear that the car was involved in collision previous to that in August 2007.Because of the removed water pump, the car can not be started, butthe engine ran finebefore I removed the water pump.The transmission workedfine, and the car drove nicely. Last May, an inspection mechanic checked out the car, and said that the front end was tight. The horn does not work, and the exhaust was making a small noise in the area of the crossover pipe. The front bumper fillers were destroyed in the collision, but they were brittle anyway. The rear bumper fillers are brittle and cracked. The crushed valor interior is very nice. It appears that the car was never smoked in. The headliner fabrichad been sagging, and it is nowtorn out. Overall, the interior is in very good condition.

STIPULATIONS: Buyer must have the title transferred in his or her name and have it registered through the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue. A 6% Pennsylvania sales taxapplies at the time of the title transfer. Sales tax and title transfer charges are to be paid by buyer. The car is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty of any kind. Buyer must arrange for shipping or towing.

CONCLUSION: I would like to see someone buy this car for the purpose of reconditioning it. Of course, if someone buys it for parts, that is none of my business. I could tow the car to the shredder which is about four miles from where I live, and I would probably get about $200 in scrap price for it. However,I hate to see an interesting car,with all those good parts, get shredded.
